Watch Samsung show off Z-folding foldable design in new video
May 18, 2021
Samsung Display revealed that it would be showing off four neat concepts at the SID Display Week expo this week, including a Z-folding foldable, rollable, and more. Now, the company has highlighted all of these technologies in a YouTube video.
The video gives us a good idea of what to expect from the foldable in particular, showing us how the folding mechanism works and what the device could look like when in smartphone mode. We also see the device used as a smart alarm clock of sorts when paired with a stand. Check out the clip below.
We also get a good look at the firm’s other concepts, such as a rollable phone and a laptop with an under-display selfie camera. But Samsung Display also highlighted its previously announced 17-inch foldable screen, which actually seems to be a foldable laptop akin to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold.
The video shows the lower half of the 17-inch foldable displaying gamepad keys while in laptop mode, then turning into one large screen when unfolded. Presumably Samsung would follow Lenovo’s lead by offering a keyboard accessory for a true laptop-style experience.

There’s no word on when any of these concepts might come to market, but Samsung and its display arm first showed off a foldable phone concept back in 2011. So it’s possible some of these concepts only become a commercial reality years from now as well.
